$6.3 Million jury verdict after failure to refer to cardiologist leads to death
Plaintiff underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor. Weeks later, he experienced stroke like symptoms and underwent and EKG. Although the test showed signs of a heart attack, there was no referral to a cardiologist. Three days later, he suffered a heart attack, fell into a vegetative state, and died within three weeks. The jury found the physician 50% liable and awarded $6.3 Million, which did not include a lost income claim.
